Steve Lipscomb has bought into his first World Poker Tour event, and taken his seat here on Day 1B of the WPT Borgata Poker Open.

If the name sounds familiar, it should. Lipscomb created the World Poker Tour.

The World Poker Tour was first launched 11 years ago, back in late 2002, and was a key factor in the poker boom of the 2000s. People often forget that the first episode of the WPT aired before Chris Moneymaker won the 2002 WSOP Main Event, and well before Moneymaker’s victory was shown on TV.

Lipscomb, along with WPT CEO Lyle Berman, oversaw the expansion of the World Poker Tour thru the poker boom, creating one of the strongest brands in the industry. Lipscomb retired from the company in 2009 as it was sold to bwin.party.

Lipscomb is having a lot of fun in the tournament so far, chatting up his table and answering questions. Lipscomb didn’t win his first pot until nearly two hours into the tournament, when he pulled in a pot to increase his stack by about 700 in chips. (Players started with 30,000).

Despite that slight bump, Lipscomb’s chip stack continues to dwindle, and it’s down to about 13,000 or so heading into Level 3. But regardless of his stack size, Lipscomb is having a great time.
