WPT Player of the Year: Jonathan Little

Apr 23, 2008

With Danny Wong’s elimination in 30th place, Jonathan Little clinches the Season VI WPT Player of the Year award.

Little won the first event of the season (WPT Mirage), quickly followed by a seventh-place finish at WPT Biloxi and a second-place finish at WPT Niagara Falls.

If Little owned the first half of the season, it was Phil Ivey who was strong in the second half. Ivey started the season at the same WPT Final Table as Little, but finished fifth. But in February, Ivey won the WPT L.A. Poker Classic at Commerce, and then threatened to take the lead in the POY race with a deep finish at WPT Reno. Ivey fell just short of earning additional POY points, busting in tenth.

There were 21 players who entered this season-ending championship with a shot at catching Little, though most of them needed a victory to do it. Danny Wong was the last contender standing before his recent elimination.

So around 4:00 pm on Day 4 of the WPT World Championship, Jonathan Little clinches the Season VI WPT Player of the Year.

Congratulations, Jonathan!
