Poker history was made in the Danish city of Vejle yesterday evening at the final table of the Danske Spil WPT National Vejle Main Event. For the first time ever, two women took center stage to battle it out for the first prize of 528.000 Danish Kroner (€71,000). Mette Louise Christiansen and Tina Christensen fought the 260 strong field of players, including a host of Danish champions & pros: double bracelet winner Jan V. Sørensen, Martin B. Hansen, Simon Ravnsbæk, Rasmus Agerskov, Stefan Raffay, Thomas ‘Kallllle’ Pedersen, Alexander ‘AlexKP’ Petersen, Anders Bække, Helge Rahbek, and WPT Champions Club Member Morton Christensen.
Mette Louise Christiansen claimed the title and made her way into the poker books as the first-ever woman to win a WPT National Main Event. The 27 year old student qualified through a live 500DK (€67) accumulator satellite hosted by Casino Munkebjerg. “It’s a fantastic feeling, and I am really proud of myself. I felt that I played great throughout the tournament, but I did not expect to win it with all the great players. I now plan to take a trip to Las Vegas with my winnings!” said the newest WPT National Main Event champion.
One by one the men hit the rail and in the end it was Mette Louise Christiansen and Tina Christensen who concluded the heads-up match. Tina Christensen had the overwhelming chip lead in the beginning, but time after time Mette Louise Christiansen came from behind to double up.
Over the five days at Casino Munkebjerg The 260 players consisted of 10 re-entries, created a prize pool of 2.246.400DKK (approx. €301,000) with 27 places getting paid.
