Los Angeles, CA (April 14, 2022) – The World Poker Tour® today announced dates for two upcoming WPT® events in 2022, at The Star Gold Coast in Australia. The first event will be a $1,500 AUD buy-in WPT® Prime event, which is WPT’s newly branded mid-stakes tournament offering replacing the WPTDeepStacks™ brand later this year, followed by the first-ever WPT festival in Australia containing a Main Tour event.

“With the largest ever WPTDeepStacks Amsterdam with Holland Casino and the largest WPTDeepStacks event in our history with The Star Sydney, we are expecting the upcoming WPTDeepStacks Thunder Valley to be a fitting farewell to this brand,” said Angelica Hael, VP of Global Tour Management for WPT. “With the introduction of WPT Prime at The Star Gold Coast, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to further elevate our global players’ experience.”

The WPT Prime Gold Coast festival will take place June 9 – 20, with the main event being held June 16 – 20. The festival’s main event will include new features players can expect from WPT Prime events, including Live Stream coverage, Action Clocks, Player of the Festival and Player of the Year leaderboards, and more.

“With interstate and international travellers returning to our shores in search of incredible experiences and entertainment, we’re excited to announce The Star Gold Coast will welcome not one, but two, major poker events later this year,” says The Star Gold Coast Chief Operating Officer, Jessica Mellor.

“In a real coup for the city, the WPT Main Tour event will make its way to the Gold Coast for the very first time in September, bringing all the prestige of the best poker players in the world. Meanwhile, WPT Prime Gold Coast in June is expected to attract interest from thousands of poker fans across Australia and the Asia Pacific after our 2021 event set a new record with over 1,000 entries.”

The Star Gold Coast festival dates run from September 15 – 27, with Australia’s inaugural $5,400 AUD buy-in WPT Main Tour stop taking place September 23 – 27.

The recently-concluded festival at The Star Sydney boasted an all-time high for most WPTDeepStacks Main Event Entries (2,023), as well as new WPT Asia-Pacific records for Total Festival Entries (6392), Total Festival Prize Pool ($6,588,590), and Main Event Prize Pool ($2,690,590).

Each event will be livestreamed and broadcast globally on WPT.com and the WPT YouTube and Twitch channels. For more information, including World Poker Tour event schedules and the tour’s latest news, visit WPT.com.
