Poker pro Melanie Weisner is making a deep run at WPT Emperors Palace Poker Classic in South Africa

If you haven’t been paying attention – and we’re not sure why you wouldn’t be – World Poker Tour is currently running its first-ever tournament in South Africa, and it’s a good one.

As of this writing, 48 of the 230 entrants into the inaugural WPT Emperors Palace Poker Classic remain in the field, all competing to become the first player in Johannesburg to etch their name onto the WPT Champions Cup. While some of the big names in the field, including Liv Boeree, Joe Cada, Chris Moneymaker and WPT Champions Club member McLean Karr have all been sent to the rail, Melanie Weisner is making her second deep run of the week after winning her first live tournament, taking down the $1,000 No-Limit Hold ’em 6-Max tournament.

To follow Melanie’s progress – and keep tabs on the rest of the field in this historic tournament – just head over to the WPT Live Updates page.

Once this tournament ends, you can catch up with WPT again when the tour returns to the States for the WPT bestbet Jacksonville Fall Poker Scramble, running November 9 – 13. This Live Streaming event, held at the beautiful bestbet Casino in Jacksonville, Florida, is already drawing tremendous interest, with both Phil Hellmuth and WPT Champions Club member Daniel Negreanu announcing they will be joining the fray.
