Phnom Penh, Cambodia (September 11, 2023) – For the first time in World Poker Tour® history, the Mike Sexton WPT® Champions Cup will make its way to Southeast Asia when NagaWorld Integrated Resort puts on WPT Cambodia in January 2024.
The festival dates span Jan 17-30, and the schedule will be anchored by the $3,500 WPT Cambodia Championship Event from Jan 25-29, which is equipped with a $1 million guaranteed prizepool.
“NagaWorld has been an excellent partner for us in recent years, hosting record-breaking WPT Prime events in each of the last two seasons,” said WPT CEO Adam Pliska. “It is a venue well fit for our first-ever Main Tour festival in Southeast Asia and prepared to expand the legacy of the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup.”
WPT debuted at NagaWorld Integrated Resort in 2019 with a 750-entry WPTDeepStacks event. WPT returned to the international locale in August of 2022, sporting the new WPT Prime rebrand, and saw a 1,050-entry main event. This mark stood as the largest live poker event ever in Cambodia and set the WPT record for entries in Asia, at the time.
WPT Prime Cambodia ran again in March of 2023 with a similar field size and is now ready to take its place on the Main Tour in 2024. The most recent Main Tour appearance in Asia was WPT Beijing during April of 2017, which still holds the WPT record for largest prizepool in Asia with $1,383,324.
Side events slated for the overall WPT Cambodia festival schedule will include the Championship Event Warm Up, Mystery Bounty, and an 8-Max Championship, all with multiple starting flights. There will also be numerous High Roller tournaments available with buy-ins up to $10,000.
