After another nine levels of no-limit hold’em, Day 2 of the WPT National Philippines has come to a close and Markus Garberg (pictured) leads the final 22 players as the field heads to Day 3.

Garberg flew under the radar for most of the day, but climbed to an average stack and then earned a big double against Lita Hsu with just 10 minutes left in the day when his nut flush held up against Hsu’s pocket tens. He finished the day with 674,000 and is joined by John Nike Costiniano, Louis Nyberg, and Jiabin Cui at the top of the counts after bagging 628,000, 548,000, and 530,000 chips respectively.

The day started with 113 players, filled with some top pros, but only the top 36 players would go home with a payday.

Brandon Schaefer, Phong “Turbo” Nguyen, Chane Kampanatsanyakorn, Winfred Yu, Iori Yogo, and Mike Falcon were just a few of the notables to bust before making the money.

The bubble was reached shortly after the players returned from dinner break and it burst after only a few hands of hand-for-hand play when Lita Hsu won a flip with ace-jack against Eddy Liang’s pocket nines.

Liang’s elimination guaranteed everybody remaining at least PHP 124,600 ($2,650) and after another few hours of poker, there were only 22 remaining to come back on Day 3.

Those final 22 players return to Solaire Resort and Casino on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 pm local time (12:00 midnight ET / 9:00 pm PT) to play down to the final six players. Be sure to return to WPT.com to follow live updates straight from the tournament floor.
