Spain’s Javier Gomez Claims partypoker WPT Prague Title; Earns €175,000 and Tournament of Champions Seat

After a grueling, three-hour heads-up battle against Moldova’s Pavel Plesuv on Sunday, Javier Gomez was crowned the winner of partypoker WPT Prague Main Event at King’s Casino, earning €175,000 and a seat into the WPT Tournament of Champions.

Entering the tournament, Gomez had only amassed $25,677 in lifetime tournament earnings, and was all smiles after the victory:

Plesuv earned €120,000 for his efforts, pushing his lifetime tournament earnings to more than $160,000. Seven countries were represented at the partypoker WPT Prague Main Event final table, including Spain, Moldova, Bulgaria, Portugal, Algeria, Denmark, and Israel.

The partypoker WPT Prague Main Event attracted a total of 256 entries, generating a total prize pool of more than €730,000. The top 27 players all earned a minimum of €6,000, including top professionals Igor Yaroshevsky (12th, €12,500), Steve O’Dwyer (14th, €10,300), and Yann Dion (15th, €10,300).

Many WPT Champions Club members attended the festival, including recent WPT Prague Main Event winners Julian Thomas and Marcin Wydrowski. They were joined by Tony Dunst, Anthony Zinno, and Alexander Lakhov.

Season XIV of the World Poker Tour continues next week at the luxurious Bellagio in Las Vegas with the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic and the $100,000 buy-in WPT Alpha8 Las Vegas. In addition to the lion’s share of the prize pool, the winners of both events will earn an Aurae Solid Gold MasterCard with $10,000 loaded onto it!
