After a big turnout in the first starting flight of the Season XV World Poker Tour® Maryland Live! $3,500 Main Event, Andy Spears grabbed the chip lead to lead the advancing 97 players. Spears was one of 250 entries in the event so far, and he bagged up 211,500 in chips.

Helping Spears finish with the chip lead was a bluff that worked late in the day against Justin Liberto. Spears moved all in on the final board of Heart QHeart JClub 3Heart KClub 5 after Liberto had bet, and he forced a fold from Liberto, who showed X KX 3 for two pair. Spears showed the Heart ADiamond 3 for just a pair of threes.

Others to do well on Saturday’s opening day were Daniel Burke (203,600), Season XIII Hublot WPT® Player of the Year Anthony Zinno (166,500), Alex and Foxen (154,000).

The second starting flight will take place on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, starting at 12 p.m. ET from Maryland Live! Casino in Hanover, MD. After such a massive opening day, surpassing last year’s field size of 337 will certainly be eclipsed.
