After Wednesday’s Day 1a in the Brasil Poker Live Presents: WPT Argentina Main Event from Casino Iguazú, Thursday was all about Day 1b and Day 1c. Day 1b was a normal starting flight, attracting 216 entries and finishing with none other than Jose Ignacio “Nacho” Barbero atop the pack.

Barbero, a representative of Aconcagua Poker, the parent network of Brasil Poker Live, bagged a stack of 172,200 in chips and will be looking to continue his streak of cashing in WPT events in South America. In November, when the World Poker Tour was in Uruguay for Brasil Poker Live Presents: WPT Uruguay, Barbero finished 29th.

One hand that helped Barbero increase his stack came in Level 7 with the blinds at 200-400 with a 50 ante. According to our friends at Codigo Poker, the final board of Club 7Club 5Spade 4Heart 7Club 4 was in the middle between Barbero and two opponents. The first player checked, the second one bet 3,000 and then Barbero raised to 11,000. The first player folded and the second player made the call. Barbero tabled the Spade ASpade 7 for a full house, sevens over fours, and his opponent’s Club KClub 6 for a flush was sent to the muck.

Barbero will take the second largest stack into Friday’s Day 2, behind only Martin Manrique’s 205,700 from Day 1a.

Also taking place on Thursday at Casino Iguazú was Day 1c, a special turbo starting flight that kicked off at 8 p.m. local time. This final flight attracted 34 more entries to the field, taking the total field size up to 327 in the World Poker Tour’s first-ever trip to Argentina.

Roger Siqueira finished with the chip lead from the Day 1c field, bagging up 116,300 in chips. Although that was the largest from the Day 1c starting flight, Siqueira’s stack will be the 15th largest overall heading into Day 2. Of the 327 entries, 161 players advanced to Day 2 in total.

Day 2 will start at 2 p.m. local time at Casino Iguazú. For coverage of the WPT Argentina $1,500 Main event, head to Codigo Poker.
