Jerry Morrell topped a field of 268 players to win the WPTDeepStacks Reno Main Event on Monday afternoon at the beautiful Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno, Nevada. Morrell was awarded $55,616 in prize money, a $3,000 Championship package, and the WPTDeepStacks trophy after winning a final table that clocked in at just under four hours in length.

WPTDS Reno Final Table Results

1. Jerry Morrell – $55,616
2. Stephen Worland – $39,023
3. Anthony Scherer – $25,101
4. Chris Bridgford – $18,580
5. Mans Montgomery – $13,947
6. Josef Bautista – $11,153
7. Steve Kujubu – $9,265
8. Shawn Roberts – $7,427
9. Greg Wagner – $5,564

Coming into the day, it was Morrell with the chip lead, and he continued to climb as he built his stack with no major setbacks.

With multiple short stacks coming into the day, it wasn’t long before the tournament lost Greg Wagner, who was quickly followed out the door by Shawn Roberts.

Following the first two eliminations was Steve Kujubu exiting in seventh, six-handed play didn’t slow down. Morrell and his Club ADiamond J bested the Spade ASpade 10 of Josef Bautista, sending Bautista packing in sixth.

Chris Bridgford was the shortest of the remaining five players, but after a quick double up he would manage to ladder to a top-four spot when Mans Montgomery was eliminated by Anthony Scherer in fifth. Bridgford would exit soon thereafter in fourth, and Morrell headed into three-handed play with a 4-1 chip lead over his opponents, Scherer and Worland.

The trend of fast-paced action didn’t change with three-handed play, as Scherer ran his queens into Morrell’s aces almost immediately. Unable to improve, Scherer hit the rail in third place, leaving Morrell and Worland heads up for the title.

Similar to last year’s heads-up match between Dustin Fox and Ivan Holmes, the two players left were close friends. Worland would secure a double up on the second hand of play, closing in on the monster chip lead of Morrell, and the two spent a while exchanging chips back and forth. Eventually, Morrell’s run good won out, as he woke up with the Club QSpade Q after Worland moved all in holding the Diamond AClub K. Morrell won the flip, earning himself a spot in the winner’s circle, taking home $55,616.
