Season 4 of WPTDeepStacks concluded with the WPTDeepStacks Championship from Thunder Valley Casino Resort earlier this month, and with that came the close of another WPTDeepStacks Player of the Year race. Thanks to a season that included two victories on the tour, Rex Clinkscales earned the title of Season 4 WPTDeepStacks Player of the Year and won the $20,000 prize for doing so.

Clinkscales’ two cashes in Season 4 of poker’s premier mid-major tournament circuit both turned out to be victories. He first won the WPTDeepStacks Tampa $1,100 Main Event at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa, Florida, for $162,354. In that event, Clinkscales topped a field of 704 entries and earned the largest score of his live tournament career to date, according to HendonMob.com.

Clinkscales then traveled north to attend the DeepStacks Poker Tour’s Battle of Alberta at Casino Yellowhead in Edmonton, Canada. There, Clinkscales topped a field of 412 entries in the C$1,100 Main Event to win his second tour title of the season and C$79,300 ($65,147). Interestingly, Clinkscales was the only American to finish in the money in this event, and he won.

What’s more, with those two victories Clinkscales became the first player in WPTDeepStacks history with two WPTDeepStacks titles.

“It’s really cool,” Clinkscales said of being the first two-time champion in WPTDeepStacks history. “I’m glad to be the only player to accomplish that so far. There are a lot of great players that play, so somebody else will catch me soon.”

Winning the Season 4 WPTDeepStacks Player of the Year title earned Clinkscales a $20,000 package of prizes. Included in the package was $15,000 in buy-in credit to select WPT Main Tour stops and a $5,000 WPTDeepStacks sponsorship package that consists of buy-in credit to select WPTDeepStacks preliminary events and hotel and airfare accommodations for select WPTDeepStacks events.

Season 5 of the WPTDeepStacks in North America kicks off in January at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. For more information on that event and others on the tour, check out the WPTDeepStacks schedule on WPT.com.
