WPT India Welcomes Huge Turn Out

Ashish Munot became the latest big winner on the World Poker Tour when he took down the WPT India Main Event, winning $89,325 in the process. With a big field, it was Munot who would triumph over Yuvraj Chaudhary in the heads-up battle.

In what was a very dramatic final hand, Munot called Chaudhary’s all-in bet. Munot had pocket tens, well behind Chaudhary’s pocket queens, and the flop was a safe ace-high. The turn was the eight of diamonds, another safe card. But on the river, the ten of spades fell to make Munot’s dreams come true and give him the title.

As well as his winnings which totalled just under $90,000, Munot also took home a WPT Passport worth $3,500, which he can use to enter any WPT Main Event on the tour next season, as well as 1,000 points for the WPT Asia-Pacific Player of the Year Leaderboard, which currently has him in the top 10 places. Game on!

The WPT team also took to the court as they battled in a doubles tennis game that served up plenty of fun on its own. Check out how ace the action was right here, and see whether Team WPT hit a set or not!

Champion Josh Adkins
Floridian poker player Josh Adkins saw his name added to the WPT Champions Cup as he took down the WPT bestbet Bounty Scramble title, winning $331,480. With bounties galore and WPT legends such as Mike Sexton in the mix, it was a fun event that saw Adkins not only bag the biggest prize but also a ticket to the season-ending WPT Tournament of Champions, worth a whopping $15,000 on its own!

What made Adkins success even more impressive was that it was his first-ever appearance in a World Poker Main Event, showing anyone who watches WPT events from afar that the first entry can be the most important one and that experience isn’t necessary for a major event title.

Plenty of former champions played the event, such as Sam Panzica and Tyler Patterson, but none of them got close to denying Adkins his moment in the spotlight.

The final hand was as dramatic as it was quick to arrive. Just a few chips had changed position across the felt during the heads-up battle between Adkins and Tan Nguyen when all the chips went into the middle. Nguyen was at risk for his tournament life with ace-king, but when Adkins called with ace-queen and hit a queen on the flop to take the tournament down.

All the WPT team have been on plenty of travels in the last few weeks, with our own Lynn Gilmartin heading Down Under to celebrate Antipodean poker – and the Aussie language – the only way she knows how!

Tony Dunst has been to Dusk Till Dawn and was just as excited to be heading back to WPT Montreal, for sport and poker reasons, among others.

Vince Van Patten was reminded of his days as a tennis pro on the ATP Tour at Cincinnati, after one enthusiastic fan got in touch.
