At 27, Jason Mercier is too old to be considered one of poker’s young guns, but too young to retire from the game he loves. And, with results like his, why would he?
With nearly $12 million in combined live and online winnings, including two WSOP bracelets, Mercier’s laid-back South Florida surfer facade hides the fact that he’s currently ranked 20th on the all-time money list and #5 on the GPI ranking. And that’s just how the Miami-area native likes it.
Mercier is the first to tell you that enjoys the perks his status earns him, including the ability to travel the globe as a PokerStars sponsored pro and to play in the largest cash games and tournaments the world has to offer. But, on the other hand, he’ll also quickly admit that the only thing he enjoys more is his time away from the felt where works on his basketball game, hangs out with his family, or just escapes for a cruise on his speedboat.
