On March 5, 2012, WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star will kick off with 49 “Shooting Stars” in the field all with $5,000 bounties on their heads. The $10,000 buy-in event takes place at the Bay 101 Casino in San Jose, Ca., with one of the most unique formats seen on tour every season. A list of some of the biggest names in poker is put together every year and a bounty assigned to them. Players who knock out a Shooting Star will receive that $5,000 bounty to go along with their newly-won chips.
Despite wearing targets throughout the tournament and having every player at every table try to bust them out, the WPT televised final table of WPT Bay 101 Shooting Stars regularly features some of those big name poker pros, and last year was no different. In fact, WPT’s own Mike Sexton was one of those players last year and sat down at the final table with Mike Matusow and Vivek Rajkumar, who was at his second WPT final table in less than a month. Eventual WPT Champion Alan Sternberg, who walked away with $1,039,00 for his win, sees himself as a target this year and will be fighting off players looking to collect his $5,000 bounty when the tournament gets underway.
On top of the bounties on offer, there is also a $10,000 bonus that will go to the chipleader of Day 1A and then again to the chipleader of Day 1B.
Here is the current list of Shooting Stars:
Tony “G” Guoga
David “Chino” Rheem
Alan Sternberg – Reigning Champion
