Andy Hwang Leads WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open Day 1A

When the World Poker Tour reunited with the Borgata Winter Poker Open in Season XI, it was Andy Hwang (pictured) who captured the title, winning an impressive $730,053, etching his name on the Champions Cup in the process.

If Day 1A is any indication, Hwang might just add his name to the cup a second time, as he ended the first of two starting days as chip leader with 251,300. Hwang’s next closest competitor is Dan Wach, who bagged up 209,900. Jason Helder is the only other player to finish above the 200,000 mark with 200,900.

Day 1A drew 360 players with approximately 159 bagging and tagging at the end of the night. Some of the notables who can relax and take tomorrow off include actor James Woods, Jake Schwartz, reigning WPT Player of the Year Mukul Pahuja, Matt Affleck, Shannon Shorr, Eddy Sabat, Aaron Massey, two-time WPT champ Marvin Rettenmaier, WPT Ones to Watch Jose Serratos, and Champions Club member James Calderaro.

Some of the players we might see back in action for Day 1B include Matt Glantz, Chris Klodnicki, reigning WPT World Champion Keven Stammen, Matt Matros, and Champions Club member Anthony Zinno.

Day 1B gets underway at 11am on Monday morning. Tune back in to see if anyone can catch Hwang at the top of the leaderboard.
