World Poker Tour returns to the Southern Hemisphere when the tour heads to Johannesburg, South Africa for the second annual WPT Emperors Palace Poker Classic beginning on November 7, 2013.

Held at the beautiful Emperors Palace Casino, this thrilling event was first added to the WPT schedule in Season XI, attracting 230 entrants including poker superstars Chris Moneymaker, Liv Boeree, Joe Cada, and Melanie Weisner. In the end, German poker pro Dominik Nitsche outlasted the star-studded field, becoming the tournament’s first winner and etching his name on the prestigious WPT Champions Cup.

“Last season’s WPT Emperors Palace Poker Classic marked the opening of a very strong new market for World Poker Tour,” said WPT President Adam Pliska. “For a brand new, untested event, we were very pleased with the turnout at Emperors Palace, and we expect an even stronger field when we return to Johannesburg next month.”

Featuring a $3,600 buy-in with two Day 1s and unlimited re-entry through the first seven levels of play, the WPT Emperors Palace Poker Classic is certain to be one of the poker highlights of the year. Players in this event will enjoy a world-class poker experience while soaking up all the amenities this five-star resort has to offer, including the luxurious Octavia’s Day Spa, the multitude of hotel pools, and a wide array of fine dining options.

World Poker Tour and its cameras will return to Emperors Palace again on February 14, 2014 for the recently announced WPT Alpha8 Johannesburg event. Filmed for broadcast on FOX Sports 1 in the U.S., this $100,000 buy-in tournament is expected to draw the game’s highest rolling professional players along with some of the most talented amateur enthusiasts from across the globe.

All players at WPT Alpha8 Johannesburg will receive VIP ground transportation to the resort, one week’s complimentary accommodation at the Doreale Grande Hotel, a dedicated VIP host, and an invitation to a free, two-night safari where they can enjoy the natural beauty of the South African wilderness.
