WPT Montreal Festival dates at Playground Poker in Canada

Montreal, Canada (March 13, 2024) Season XXII of the World Poker Tour® continues to expand as the schedule is bolstered by a trip to the Great White North. WPT® Montreal will bring three Championship events across a 14-day festival to Playground.

“It is a tremendous success to have a Playground festival back on the WPT schedule,” said WPT CEO Adam Pliska. “We look forward to returning to Canada and have a lot in store with events spanning multiple World Poker Tour levels.”

The WPT Montreal festival at Playground, featuring $3,500,000 CAD in guaranteed prize money, will run from May 9-22. Headlining the tournament schedule is the $3,500 CAD buy-in WPT Montreal Championship with a prize pool guarantee of $2,000,000 CAD, which plays down May 16-20.

“We’re buzzing with excitement as WPT Montreal returns to Playground! It’s more than just a tournament; it’s where history is made,” said Phil Sabbah, Playground CEO. “Since our landmark inaugural event in 2012, Playground has been the backdrop for groundbreaking moments in poker, including crowning the first female champion in a WPT open event and witnessing the legendary Mike Sexton secure his first WPT Championship. Every time we come together, magic happens, and I can’t wait to see what unfolds this May.”

Along with the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup, another perpetual trophy will be presented at the renowned Kahnawake poker club, located just outside Montreal, the WPT Prime Cup. A $1,150 CAD WPT Prime Montreal Championship event will play down May 12-17 and boasts a $1,000,000 CAD guarantee.

Both the WPT Prime Montreal Championship and WPT Montreal Championship will be spotlighted with a televised final table on May 21 and May 22, respectively. The final-table action will also be livestreamed on the WPT YouTube and Twitch channels.

Other events on the festival schedule include a WPT500 Championship event from May 9-13, followed by a Meet-Up Game hosted by WPT Ambassador Brad Owen on May 14.

*WPT Global, the official online poker website of the World Poker Tour, will play a large role in the WPT Montreal festival by running starting flights for the WPT500 and WPT Prime Montreal events that will qualify players for a Day 2 berth to the live arena. WPT Global will also offer a multitude of satellite options for players to win their way into all three marquee events. Additionally, **ClubWPT™ will send three qualifiers to compete in the $3,500 CAD Championship event.

The last time WPT set up in Montreal was in the latter half of 2019. In similar fashion, the festival entailed three staple events, a WPT500, WPTDeepStacks, and WPT Main Tour event. The Main Tour event produced 1,109 entries and a prize pool of $3,327,000 CAD, and was won by Geoffrey Hum, claiming his first WPT title, a grand prize worth $500,000 CAD, and a spot on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup.
