For the first time since WPT Season VII and for the first time ever in the city of Montreal, World Poker Tour is back in Canada with WPT Montreal and has set records for poker tournaments held there in the process.

From a statement released by WPT Montreal host casino Playground Poker this afternoon:

“With this huge field, WPT Montreal will become the largest World Poker Tour event by entrants ever held in the country of Canada with a total prize pool of well over CAN$3,000,000 and one of the largest fields in World Poker Tour history. This tournament has also beaten the record for the largest big buy-in field (at least $1,000) in Canadian history.”

The tournament is currently at the beginning of Level 5 on Day 1B and registration is now closed with 632 entries for the day. That makes for a total field of 1,110 players, the aforementioned Canadian record. Official prize pool and field size information will be announced later today and available via WPT Live Updates as soon as it is released.

There are 552 players still remaining who are trying to play their way into Day 2 to join the 141 survivors from Day 1A.

Make sure to keep up with all of the action with WPT Live Updates and WPT Raw Deal analyst Tony Dunst will host a Live Stream of the final table action at www.WorldPokerTour.com starting at 4:30pm ET on Tuesday, November 27. The Live Stream will also be broadcast in French at www.CanadaPoker.com.
