I loved my vacation! My two older boys and I just did a road trip from LA to Big Sur and Carmel. We stayed at the Lodge at Pebble Beach, our favorite place! Because of our various injuries of sorts, our workouts were going to be confined to just walking.

We walked for miles to enjoy the views and a lot of father and sons talks and laughs.

We had no “have to’s” This was Big Sur, Day 2 with Son 2 in the background who was working off a bit of a hangover.

We enjoyed overcast days and the smell of the pines in this magical area.

We didn’t play golf this time, and that was ok. We actually walked on the course, till we got kicked off, right after this picture was taken in fact .. unfortunately, forgot to snap the selfie of this debacle

It was all about the FOOD and drinks, amazing restaurants ….great walks and reminiscing.

Our drive back to LA was also superb. I loved the fact that I didn’t have to check bags for a plane, and no stress of whether it was going to go down (yes, I’m a bad flyer ) Man of little faith at times, I admit.

But, is how I like to travel…and it was a classic time!

Coming home is what it’s really all about. When you come home, you realize what you have THERE.

I have a wonderful house, with lots of rooms and comfortabilities.

I have no checkout line, no bills to curse at, at least until I hit the mailbox, a beautiful wife, a third younger son, and a great dog who has never spoken a bad word to me.

We have a functioning kitchen with a fridge that has amazing food that I’m so appreciative of, and I don’t have to sign anything to take food or drink out of it.

I have booze in abundance and interesting shot glasses that I bought over the years that I truly enjoy.

I have a room /office, which is quite nice with books and memorabilia and pictures that make me reminisce about life …

I have a chair that is incredibly comfortable that I personally love!

I share a bed that has perfect pillows for our liking ….and sheets that were picked by my wife that are soft and nice.

I have a TV and a clicker that I sort of understand ( a miracle) and works to perfection 80 percent of the time.

I have a great car right outside the door that I truly enjoy driving. And it just sits there waiting like an eager puppy for his master (me) to start the engine and go for a spin.

There are no big hassles, everything is in pretty good order, all in all, Life at home is pretty terrific. But sometimes going away on a great vacation/road trip, makes you appreciate your home that much more.

Bottom line: vacation is wonderful and you’re lucky to be able to do it. But the kicker is, that when you get home, you realize what you had all along! And you appreciate that much more.

Possibly the greatest movie of all time the Wizard of Oz said it best.

“There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home,” said Dorothy.

And a great vacation, makes you realize it.

Till next time, play loose and bluff on the river!
