After taking home the winner’s share of the $5.895 million prize pool, Gostisa is now the first player from Slovenia to win a WPT® title
Rok Gostisa overcame a star-studded final table to win the World Poker Tour® World Online Championships Main Event on partypoker and will now see his name etched onto the Mike Sexton WPT® Champions Cup alongside other poker legends.
After outlasting 1,177 other players, Gostisa defeated David Peters during heads-up play to win the title and secured a career-high $959,492.83 first place prize. In the process, Gostisa became the first Slovenian player to join the WPT Champions Club. He also receives a Mike Sexton WPT Champions Club trophy replica and a Hublot watch.
Peters walked away with $660,842.10 for the best WPT result of his career. The final table also included WPT Champions Club member Vlad Darie (3rd place – $453,677.67), Bruno Volkmann (4th place – $296,185.27), Talal Shakerchi (6th place – $156,421.14), and Joao Simao (9th place – $76,713.19).
The 1,179-entry field generated a $5,895,000 prize pool and 178 players cashed. Three-time WPT winner Brian Altman, who won WPT Seminole Hard Rock Tampa in June, narrowly missed out on a chance to join Darren Elias as a four-time WPT champion when he was eliminated in 18th place.
“Winning a World Poker Tour title is a crowning achievement for any poker player. The Main Event was the culmination of the WPT World Online Championships, which consisted of 133 events played over a 33-day span. With great structures and buy-ins ranging from $5.50 to $25,500, the WPT WOC attracted some of the biggest names in poker, many of whom found their way to the winner’s circle. Other winners included Sami Kelopuro, WPT Champions Club member Ole Schemion, Daniel Colpoys, Barry Hutter, and Jonathan Proudfoot.
Brazil’s Pedro Cavalieri navigated his way through the 2,295-entry field in the WPT500 event to turn his $530 entry into $153,503.
