WPT in Australia
WPT first ventured to Australia in October, 2019 to host the inaugural WPT Australia at The Star Gold Coast. The $2,500 Main Event had an excellent debut, drawing a field of 658 entrants and generating a prizepool of more than $1 million USD. Melbourne resident Hari Varma navigated the field to win the inaugural event and secured the first place prize of $185,693.
The Star Gold Coast has since hosted two WPT Prime events in 2022 and 2023, as well as one Main Tour stop in 2022. WPT will return for a Main Tour festival beginning on September 14, 2023. The festival will feature an array of side events including a Mystery Bounty, Ladies Event, Super High Roller, and a player’s party. Each of these events lead up to the AUD $8,000 buy-in Main Event that will kick off on September 22.
WPT is excited to return to the outback for another highly anticipated poker festival at the beautiful Star Gold Coast. Australia is an outstanding setting for poker action and home to many of the game's best players. WPT Champions Joe Hachem and David Tang, WPT Prime Champions Sheng Ye and Yang Lei, as well as, WPT’s very own anchor and ambassador Lynn Gilmartin are a few of the wonderful people that call Australia home.
