Los Angeles, CA (May 16, 2018) – The World Poker Tour® is returning to Asia with two events in 2018. Today, the premier name in internationally televised gaming and entertainment announced WPT® Japan and WPT Korea at Paradise City, featuring the first-ever WPT Teams Event, in September.

“The World Poker Tour is thrilled to announce WPT Japan and WPT Korea as part of our 2018 schedule,” Adam Pliska, CEO of the World Poker Tour, said. “Asia played an important role in the WPT’s success in 2017, and we are proud to return to the region in 2018. Last year, the WPT historically kicked off Season XVI with WPT Beijing and held the first-ever WPT Japan. We are honored to have the opportunity to continue to fuel poker’s growth in this burgeoning region and showcase the wealth of talent Asian players have to offer.”

WPT Japan is taking place first, running September 15-17 in Tokyo. The event has a buy-in of JPY 30,000 and will be held in partnership with Japan Poker Union Corporation. The event marks the World Poker Tour’s second trip to Japan. Last year, it was Eiji Kimura topping 460 entries to win the WPT Japan Main Event.

WPT Japan will also present a unique opportunity for players to compete in the opening stages of the WPT Korea Main Event. Players at WPT Japan can play starting in Japan, and those who advance will join the WPT Korea Main Event at Paradise City.

WPT Korea is scheduled to take place September 18-24 at Paradise City Casino in Incheon, South Korea. The WPT Korea Main Event has a buy-in of KRW 1.1 million and runs September 21-24. The event has two starting flights, and players who qualify from the WPT Japan festival will join the field on September 23. The WPT Korea festival will also feature a high roller event and several side events.

Further elevating the WPT’s presence in Asia will be the first-ever WPT Teams Event, created by Danny McDonagh, WPT Live Events Specialist. The WPT Teams Event takes place September 19-21 during WPT Korea. The event is capped at 16 teams and entry is $5,000 per team. Each team is made up of four players, with one team maximum per country. The teams will compete against one another in up to six poker events that include variations of no-limit Texas hold’em and pot-limit Omaha events. The winning team will receive WPT Korea Main Event entries for each of its players.
