WPT Champions Cup

To make the most of the World Poker Tour’s ongoing efforts to give more women the opportunity to learn and play poker, it only makes sense to highlight occasions that are conducive to that purpose. Three such events will be happening in the coming months, with one of them set to take place later this week.

The first and most immediate chance to welcome more women to the game is happening on Friday, February 15, 2019. Commerce Casino in the Los Angeles area is the place to be that afternoon for appetizers and cocktails, a poker seminar and freeroll, and the chance to win valuable prizes. Of course, the Los Angeles Poker Classic (LAPC) is already in full swing, so attendees can take their newly-acquired poker knowledge to the cash game tables or into any of a number of tournaments on the LAPC schedule.

The Women’s Poker Association (WPA) is sponsoring the Women’s Warm Up with LearnWPT. Considering the WPA’s mission is to advance, promote, and recognize the growth and development of women in poker, the group’s partnership with the Commerce and World Poker Tour for this event is a purposeful one.

Registration costs $40 and is limited to 70 participants, so players are encouraged to register as soon as possible to ensure a seat. This link to the WPA event page allows for a quick sign-up.

The event on Friday, February 15 will adhere to a simple schedule:

• 3 p.m.: Poker seminar by LearnWPT
• 4 p.m.: Freeroll hosted by Justin Hammer, Tournament Coordinator at Commerce Casino

Free appetizers and a signature Commerce cocktail will be offered throughout the seminar.

Prizes donated to the event by participating groups will reward the top five players in the freeroll tournament as follows:

• 1st place (donated by WPT): $570 seat to LAPC Event 41, No Limit Hold’em Double Stack tournament with a $300,000 prize pool guarantee
• 2nd place (donated by LearnWPT): One-year membership to LearnWPT.com worth $228
• 3rd – 5th places (donated by Commerce Casino): $150 Mega Satellite seats

The LAPC NLHE Double Stack event starts on Thursday, February 14, but registration for the second starting day will still be open on Friday night if the freeroll winner wants to play immediately. And there is a Day 1C, yet another starting flight, that will begin at noon on Saturday, February 16.

As for the satellite seats, the $150 Mega Satellites will begin running on February 20 and continue for more than one week. Some guarantee five $1,100 seats, while others guarantee 10 seats. Commerce Casino hosts a One Day, One Million Satellite event on Friday, March 1, consisting of two satellites costing $1,100 each and will guarantee 50 seats each to the $10,000 buy-in WPT Championship Main Event set to get underway on March 2.

For those who will not be in or near Los Angeles on Friday, there will be more opportunities!

April WPTDeepStacks Sacramento

When the WPTDeepStacks tour sets up at the Thunder Valley Casino Resort in California for its April 4-8 event, the overall festival will already have been in motion since March 22. There will be a WPT-affiliated event for newer players to attend close to the start of the WPTDS tournament. Details will be announced as soon as they are confirmed.

May WPTDeepStacks Black Hawk

The next United States stop for WPTDeepStacks will be in Colorado at the Golden Gates Casino for a May 9-13 Main Event. The entire surrounding series kicks off on May 2 and include everything from a May 7 ladies-only tournament to a May 8 ClubWPT members-only tournament.

Additionally, LearnWPT is available around the clock for anyone to try. Players can watch two of the strategy episodes for free via this link and find out more about the various levels of poker education available, starting at only $5 for the first month.
