The WPTDeepStacks is delighted to confirm its return to Marrakech across September 14-22 2019 with the poker action stretching across nine days at the Casino de Marrakech. It will be the seventh consecutive year for the WPT  in the popular Moroccan city and the third featuring the WPTDeepStacks.

Marrakech is a city that has always been a popular poker destination, and its relationship with the WPT spans over ten years after Christophe Savary won the Season 8 Main Event for €379,014 back in 2009.

Francois Tosques

Twelve months ago, Frenchman Francois Tosques (pictured) secured his first WPTDeepStacks Marrakech Main Event title after a battling performance prevented Morocco’s Jaouad Abida from a home nation win. Tosques’ head-up victory over Abida secured a €91,411 payday after 431 entrants had created a €452,452 prize pool.  Other players to make the money places back in 2018 included fifth-place finisher Kalidou Sow, former WPTDS Europe Player of the Year Tobias Peters, WPTDS Portugal winner Jimmy Livramento and ex-professional footballer Jimmy Kebe.

Smain Mamouni

The 2017 trophy also headed back to France after Mamouni Smain (pictured) came through a 433 player-field. Pablo Cuadrado was the runner-up on this occasion, with the likes of Pedro Cairat, Parham Ahoor, and America’s Elizabeth Tedder among the players to cash.

The WPT National Tour brought the action to Casino de Marrakech in 2016, with over 15 events making for a week of full-throttle poker. The €1,200 WPTN Main Event saw Rachid Rami bank €84,071 for topping the 396 field. Mohamed Lahlou took away €57,522 in second place, with Arthur Conon awarded €39,823 in third place. There was also a deep run for WPT’s very own Tony Dunst, who made the trip from the USA to take part in the festivities and found an 18th place finish in the Main Event.

2015 WPT National Marrakech saw a certain Romain Lewis achieve a fourth-place finish for $36,463, just a year after his first recorded live cash. Lewis was unable to prevent Rodolphe Rey taking the victory, but the Frenchman has since shown his poker prowess on the world’s biggest stages, cashing for over $2.3m, including a third-place finish in the recent partypoker MILLIONS Europe 2019 Main Event for €428,000.
