Martin Gaudreault-Remillard (pictured) topped a field of 686 entries to win the Season 6 WPTDeepStacks Montreal Main Event on Tuesday at the Playground Poker Club in Montreal, Quebec up in Canada. The local poker player earned his first WPTDeepStacks title, and CAD $186,600 in first-place prize money, which included a USD $3,000 championship prize package. This is the biggest win of Gaudreault-Remillard’s poker career, and he was surrounded by a group of friends cheering him on at his home casino.

“It’s awesome obviously, I have no words, it’s just incredible. I don’t play too many tournaments, and just going out and binking one of the biggest ones I play is awesome,” said Gaudreault-Remillard right after his big victory.

“In general I just had a weird stack in a weird position. I had 22 bigs, with some big action at the table, and I didn’t get hands early, but at the same time, it was great because there was a lot of action and players busting out so I kept moving up. And then later I won a few hands, and one big hand that pretty much made my final table,” said Gaudreault-Remillard about his journey through the final table.

And at the conclusion of the winner’s interview, he also had some nice things to say about the Playground Poker Club.

“Honestly it’s completely awesome. Having that in Montreal is pretty rare these big tournaments with big prize pools. The staff did everything perfectly in the last three days that I played. I expect nothing less from Playground in general,” said Gaudreault-Remillard.

2019 WPTDeepStacks Montreal Final Table Results

1st: Martin Gaudreault-Remillard – $182,790 + $3,810 (USD $3,000 WPTDS Championship Package)
2nd: Julio Cacoilo – $128,210
3rd: Raymond Carter – $82,670
4th: Daniel Le – $60,555
5th: Leo Leclerc – $46,285
6th: Karim-Olivier Kamal – $36,940
7th: Mitchell Dredge – $30,595
8th: Johnson Penyanseng – $24,350
9th: Adam Lamers – $18,285

The eliminations kicked off when Adam Lamers fell in ninth place a few minutes into play, and Johnson Penyaseng exited in eighth place after he paid out two doubles to put his stack in danger. Mitchell Dredge (seventh place), and Karim-Olivier Kamal (sixth place) then both hit the rail as well before the first break in play.

Leo Leclerc fell in fifth place shortly after the players returned, and there were a series of double ups that led to Daniel Le taking his leave in fourth place a while later. The second break in play then took place, and Raymond Carter was the next victim when they returned when he busted in third place.

That set a heads-up final between Julio Cacoilo (12,575,000) and Martin Gaudreault-Remillard (8,000,000). Gaudreault-Remillard took the chip lead pretty quick during the final match, and the first time the two players got all their chips into the middle was the last hand of the tournament.

On the final hand, Cacoilo raised to 400,000 preflop, and Gaudreault-Remillard called before the flop was dealt JdTd9h. Both players checked to the 5h on the turn.

Gaudreault-Remillard bet 500,000 from the small blind, and Cacoilo reraised all in. Gaudreault-Remillard called to cover him so they flipped over their cards.

Gaudreault-Remillard: Jc9s
Cacoilo: AdKc

River: 9d

Cacoilo was eliminated in second place, good for CAD $128,210, and Gaudreault-Remillard was the WPTDeepStacks Montreal champion. He took home CAD $182,790 + $3,810 (USD $3,000 WPTDS Championship Prize Package), and the WPTDeepStacks trophy.

Congratulations to our new WPTDeepStacks Champion – Martin Gaudreault-Remillard!

That concludes our coverage from WPTDeepStacks Montreal. Thanks to the Playground Poker Club for hosting another great stop on the tour.
