Recently, we got a chance to catch up with Royal Flush Girl Angelique Velez and find out what makes her tick, some of her favorite things and what it’s like being one of the Royal Flush Girls. Below is the Q&A session with Angelique with some photos at the bottom from a recent photo shoot during WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic at Bellagio.
After being chosen as a Royal Flush Girl, how did you celebrate?
I have a really quiet way of being excited about things, so I just told my family, but I was so happy when I got the call.
How many years have you been modeling?
I’ve been modeling for 4 years now, full time the past two years, and I got started by accident, actually. I was interning for a magazine and one of the models was a no-show, so I had to take her spot.
Do you have any hidden talents?
Hidden talents? Not really. Although I can twist my arm completely in a 360, haha. Also, according to Ivy, my talent is that I can read remarkably well. Kind of boring but, hey, I’ll take it.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure is eating glazed donuts and drinking Ovaltine chocolate milk before bed. I always try to fight the urge, but I lose every time.
Who’s your celebrity crush?
I don’t have a celebrity crush that I’m “in love” with, but I admire Shia Labeouf. If I had to hit the town with anyone? Will Smith.
Do you sing in the shower?
I’m definitely a professional shower singer and performer. Slippery tub floors don’t stop me from pretending I’m on stage. And I sing medleys of songs, never just one.
Favorite ice cream flavor?
Vanilla Bean. Plain and simple – I can’t do all that extra stuff that people add to their ice cream.
Compared to the other Royal Flush Girls, how’s your poker game?
We all pretty much learned at the same time, but I’m going to be completely cocky and say I’m the best at the game, even though Ivy confuses people because she’s always going all-in whether she’s bluffing or not. Brittany might give me a run for my money, haha.
Poker players can be very superstitious — Are you?
I don’t think I’m superstitious, I just don’t walk under ladders, step on cracks or stop at the 13th floor, that’s all. 🙂
What is your favorite movie?
My favorite movie is Legends of the Fall. Hands down.
Most played song on your iTunes?
I listen to everything on my iPod but probably Frank Sinatra is my most played. Followed by Ella Fitzgerald.
When not hanging out at the Royal Flush Girls Social Bar, you enjoy ____?
My hobbies are writing and working on creative projects of my own that I’d like to put together. I like going out to eat and visiting museums as well. And traveling, oh how I love traveling.
