Once the excitement and buzz of Christmas and the New Year have passed, there is no need to despair about the lack of social events in your calendar. Less than two weeks into 2020, WPTDeepstacks is poised to fight off the January blues by bringing the first European stop of the New Year to Berlin.

Returning to Casino Spielbank Berlin for the third consecutive year, there is plenty to see and do both on and off the felt.

One thing that you can guarantee about Berlin in January, is that it will be cold. But don’t let that put you off as this is a fantastic time to pay a visit to a city that is geared up to entertain its visitors in the winter months. Below are a few ideas of how to enjoy a break in the vibrant German capital.

Mauerpark

For those who like to take in some culture, the beautiful Mauerpark should be high on the list of places to visit. Steeped in history, it is located in part of the area that divided East and West Berlin from 1961-1989. Following reunification, the no-man’s-land was turned into a public park.

Whether you want to enjoy the scenery; visit one of the many cafes in the area; indulge in some retail therapy in the famous Mauerpark Flea Market (open every Sunday); or flex your vocal chords at the weekly Bearpit Karaoke (also on Sundays), there is something for everyone and all within a 2km walk from the casino.

Historical landmarks

Checkpoint Charlie is even closer – under 1km – from the casino. A landmark of huge historical importance, history buffs will certainly want to pay a visit to the area, which also houses several museums and galleries.

One of the most iconic landmarks and an absolute must-see, is the Brandenburg Gate. The restored 18th Century gate is a stunning piece of architecture in its own right, but the fact that it is a national symbol of peace and unity, is undoubtedly what makes it the No.1 Berlin attraction.

The nightlife

For those who want to sample the best that Berlin has to offer after hours, Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg are two of the best areas to head to. Both are located centrally in the capital and are home to a host of bars and nightclubs that will satisfy any night owl.

Cosmic Comedy, located in Mitte, offers laughter in abundance as well as great value-for-money with free pizza and some drinks included in the ticket price.

The Alternative Berlin Tour takes in some of the best local highlights, including hidden street art. The tour provides the perfect foundation for those who want to continue exploring on their own, away from the well-known tourist traps.

The poker

Last, but certainly not least, WPTDS brings poker players another festival packed full of poker tournaments. Below are a few of the highlights but check out the tournament schedule for full information of what’s on offer throughout the week.
