1,573 entries later in the World Poker Tour’s return to live events in the United States, an underdog story for the ages comes true. Ilyas Muradi took his shot at a $400 satellite at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and turned it into a massive six-figure score and a place in history on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup by winning the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open.

“I got an opportunity because I missed my flight. I played a satellite and here I am,” said Muradi after the win.

“This is amazing, it’s making me want to cry.”

Muradi’s dream of winning a World Poker Tour event hit a major crescendo during the final table in a pivotal hand versus Survivor contestant and longtime poker pro Ronnie Bardah. Muradi’s pocket aces held in a spot that made him the chip leader for the rest of the event in an emotional moment captured onsite.

“Anyone’s dream can come true,” said Muradi after the event. Supported by a vibrant rail, Muradi said he can’t wait to play in the WPT Tournament of Champions, presented by Baccarat Crystal.

“The marathon continues,” Muradi said. “This is just the beginning. You guys will be hearing a lot more from me.”

We hope we do, Ilyas. Congratulations on the win and you are forever known as a WPT Champion!
