VolpeIt’s been a pretty impressive couple of weeks for Paul Volpe on the World Poker Tour.

After a strong, second-place finish at the WPT LA Poker Classic at Commerce Casino, Volpe headed north to the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star where he made a second consecutive final table, this time finishing third. While Volpe didn’t manage to claim a title at either event, his impressive performances have vaulted him into the lead in the WPT Season XI Player of the Year race, ahead of WPT Champions Club member Matt Salsberg.

With  five events remaining on the WPT’s main tour before the start of Championship Week in May, there’s plenty of race left to run, and plenty of players who still have a shot at claiming the coveted Player of the Year title. As of today, the top five places are:

  1. Paul Volpe – 2,350 points
  2. Matt Salsberg – 2,200 points
  3. Paul Klann – 1,800 points
  4. Antonio Esfandiari – 1,500 points
  5. Marvin Rettenmaier – 1,500 points
  6. Ravi Raghavan – 1,450 points

Players looking to make a move up the leader board can play for their POY points – and a WPT title – at the Gioco Digitale WPT Venice Grand Prix, starting March 25.
