WPTDeepStacks returns to one of the European tour’s most popular stops this November as the Grand Casino Brussels Viage once again hosts a full festival of poker action!

The WPTDeepStacks Main Event will feature a €1,200 buy-in and will take place across November 14-17, 2019.

Not only is WPTDeepStacks Brussels one of our most popular stops on in Europe, but it has also hosted some memorable and recording-breaking moments!

With the poker action shortly heading back to the Grand Casino Viage in November, here at WPT.com, we think it’s time to take a walk down memory lane to relive how the first two-time WPTDeepStacks champion in Europe was crowned!

The First of Many?

In October 2017, WPTDeepStacks Netherlands came to Valkenburg, and when the Main Event action reached the final table there was talent aplenty on show! Dutchman Tobias Peters, Joris Ruijs, Walter van Dalen, Rens Pleijster, Jonas Wohlgemuth, Zhong Chen, and Bernard Eifvering were joined by Belgian Bart Lybaert and Greece’s Ioannis Angelou-Konstas in a battle for the €56,806 top-prize.

Angelou-Konstas went into the final table with the chip lead after he scored the first three eliminations on Day 3 to create the final nine. The Greek player’s momentum continued, and he navigated his way to a tough heads-up battle against WPTDeepStacks Europe POY in-waiting, Peters.

But Angelou-Konstas held strong and secured his first WPTDS Main Event title!

Brussels Battling

With the bust barely settled after his Valkenburg victory, it wasn’t too long before Angelou-Konstas was back in WPTDS action when he made his way to Brussels just six months later. The €1,200 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event attracted 315 entrants and created a €336,105 prize pool.

After the money bubble burst, the likes of Christophe De Meulder, Arne Coulier, Paul Berende, Pedro Cairat, Sander van Wesemael, Stefan Aerts, and Benjamin Truyens all remained in contention but ultimately made their way to the payout desk before the final table of nine had been reached.

Among the final few vying for the €75,000 that sat at the top of the payout chart was the familiar name of Angelou-Konstas, who already achieved quite the feat by making his second Main Event final table appearance and was now looking to go the whole way for a second time.

Once again, Angelou-Konstas had shown his dominance and sat at the top of the chip counts when the final table action began.

Konstas Cruising

Frenchman Amin Charef, Belgian Miguel Coussement, and Dutchman Mourad Tounnouti all departed before the likes of Roland Rozel, America’s Michael Lech, and Italy’s Gianluca Bucchino also fell.

There was now just one man standing between Angelou-Konstas and a second title – Martin Kaya.

The German, who had already secured his best live cash by making heads-up, was sat with 3.7m compared to Angelou-Konstas’ 5.7m.

Kaya struggled to get a foothold in the battle and was quickly reduced to five big blinds, and ultimately got his remaining stack in the middle with king-six of hearts but was ahead of queen-three of diamonds. Kaya flopped a flush draw, turned a pair of sixes, and looked set to get back into the heads-up match.

But it wasn’t to be. The queen of clubs came on the river and handed Angelou-Konstas one of the outs he needed to take down the title and create history.

A fantastic achievement was sealed by Angelou-Konstas to become the first two-time WPTDeepStacks Main Event champion in Europe!

But Angelou-Konstas’ story continued as just another six months later he topped a 1,015 player-field in the partypoker £5,300 MILLIONS UK Main Event for a cool £940,000!
