As the WPTDeepStacks prepares for another exciting season of events across Europe, WPT is delighted to announce the return of the Player of the Year Leaderboard.

Players will be able to compete throughout the season and add POY points to their tally in a bid to win the WPTDeepStacks Europe Player of the Year trophy and the massive top-prize of €10,000 in WPT buy-in credits, to be used at any WPT tour event of their choice.

But it won’t just be the champion walking away with a prize to their name, as the runner-up will also be awarded €3,500 in WPT buy-in credits, and third-place receives €1,500 in WPT buy-in credits.

Your first opportunity to take an early lead in the Season 18 POY race will come across July 19-22 as the opening Main Event of the season kicks-off at the stunning King’s Resort, Rozvadov for WPTDeepStacks Germany.

Only WPTDeepStacks Main Events count towards the POY leaderboard, with POY points awarded to every player who places in the money, and all points awarded are calculated by prizepool size per event. This season will also reward players with several ITM in the WPTDeepStacks giving them bonus points.

Season 17 POY Race

After a tense battle in the season-ending WPTDeepStacks European Championship Deauville Main Event,  the Season 17 WPTDeepStacks Europe POY title went to Sweden’s Simon Brandstrom.

Brandstrom saw his name shoot to the top of the leaderboard after he came through a European record-breaking 1,232 player-field to win the WPTDeepStacks €1,500 Barcelona Main Event for €270,000.

But Brandstrom still had work to do, as WPT Marrakech Main Event champion Francois Tosques, WPT Amsterdam Main Event winner Felix Schulze, as well as a host of other familiar tour names,  were all still in the hunt for the trophy going to the season finale.

Schulze ran up a big stack early on during the WPTDS European Championship Deauville Main Event and looked like the front-runner, but his momentum fell, and a 52nd place finish in the money was not enough to topple Brandstrom, and the Swede held on for the victory.

Check out Brandstrom collecting his trophy from WPT Royal Flush Crew member Alex Gray below.
