Following the World Poker Tour’s first-ever trip to Germany for the WPT European Championship, a new player has landed his way on the top 20 of the Hublot WPT Player of the Year leaderboard for Season XVI. Ole Schemion (pictured), the winner of the Season XVI WPT European Championship Main Event, topped a field of 339 entries in the €3,300 buy-in poker tournament to win €218,435 ($255,352) in prize money.

In addition to earning his first WPT title, a nice chunk of change, a $15,000 seat into the season-ending WPT Tournament of Champions, and a luxurious Hublot Big Bang Steel watch, Schemion was awarded 1,000 points in the Hublot WPT Player of the Year race. The German poker star moved to 16th on the Hublot WPT Player of the Year leaderboard with at least six more WPT Main Tour events on the Season XVI schedule.

Schemion joins everyone else in chasing Art Papazyan, who has 2,400 points thanks to winning two World Poker Tour titles in Season XVI. Papazyan won the WPT Legends of Poker Main Event and the WPT Maryland at Live! Casino Main Event within a month’s time to storm out to a big lead in the race.

Hublot Season XVI WPT Player of the Year Top 10 (as of January 18, 2018)

1st: Art Papazyan – 2,400 points
2nd: Ryan Tosoc – 1,400 points
3rd: Alex Foxen – 1,200 points
4th: Guo Liang Chen – 1,200 points
5th: Jay Lee – 1,200 points
6th: Mike Del Vecchio – 1,150 points
7th: Josh Kay – 1,100 points
8th: Sean Perry – 1,050 points
9th: Zachary Donovan – 1,050 points
10th: Gregory Weber – 1,000 points

Next up on Season XVI of the World Poker Tour is the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open $3,500 Main Event, taking place at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Florida and starting January 19. With a $2 million guaranteed prize pool, it’s already guaranteed that first place will earn at least 1,200 Hublot WPT Player of the Year points. Second place will also earn four-figure points, at 1,000, so the stage is set for some more movement in the Hublot WPT Player of the Year race for Season XVI.
